In Memory

George Gluck

George Gluck

Fellow classmates:

I received the following email message from Terry Baker:

"I was browsing facebook and found George Gluck passed away Ocotober 1, 2018. Another addition to In Memory I guess. I'll always remember the antics George was up to in high school. Once he made little exploding capsules that he'd throw, and they'd explode on impact. I didn't know George well at all but it seems he accomplished a lot in his life and certainly passed away too soon."

We exchanged emails and both acknowledged that we are at points in our lives where losing someone seems to happen more than we would like.  I appreciate Terry sharing this information and ask all of you to contact me (so that I can share with others) if you know of or learn of the passing of one of our classmates.

I am saddened by the news that a classmate and friend, has died.  George Gluck and I met after I returned from last tour in Vietnam around 1968 early 1969.  He and his best friend Jim Rhoades were playing in a band called Cycril or Circle. They had a studio which was an old automotive garage in Redwood City off Industrial Avenue.

George was as I remember a bright man with my interests. He had a love of geology.  He also, as I remember, had a interest in music and the band that they were part. It was important to him and Rhoades, hs musical band mate and song writing partner.

.I had a reel to reel 4 track recorder which I allowed them to make tapes of there music. Bob Porter was a bass player.

They both asked me how I managed in Nam. I mentioned to them that my platoon leader LT Williams III and my Battalion Commander both had told the NCO's that if we wrote and understood the meaning of our obituary that we would not be afraid of death.
I still believe that to this day. Live each day to it's fullest.  As in life we often have relationships that part for many reasons.

I hope that his family and friends have fond memories of him.

George and I chatted on Linked In before our 50th reunion.  It was good to catch up.  Jim Rhodes and I dated during our sophomore year, and George seemed to be with us on most of our dates, so I had a chance to see his musical and his funny side - way different than the George I was used to seeing in class. I was impressed with all the interesting pursuits George managed to squeeze into his time on this earth - the biggest surprise to me during that recent conversation, although it shouldn't have been, given his interest in geology, was how much time he and his wife spent hiking and climbing in the Sierras. Another gem lost to us.
